Search
One box finds every screen, school, person, class, course, post and Help article, and takes you straight there.
The search box searches the whole of iSpeak, not just the school you are looking at. One query answers with everything it can find, already grouped, and every result opens the exact place it names.
Where the box is
- The search box in the top bar, on every page.
- Press Cmd+K on a Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows from anywhere in the app — the box takes focus wherever you are, including from the admin pages.
- On a phone, the magnifying glass in the top bar opens the search sheet full-screen, with the keyboard already up.
What it finds
- Go to — every screen you can reach and every settings section, including the ones inside a school's Settings.
- Help — Help Center articles written for you.
- Schools — the schools you belong to and any school listed in Discover.
- People — members of the schools you are in.
- Classes — by title, subject or teacher.
- Courses & lessons — the classroom of your schools.
- Posts — by title or the first line of the post.
- Admin — only if you are a platform admin; users and promo codes.
A short query puts screens first, because three letters are usually someone reaching for a place they already know. A longer one puts content first, because a longer query is a hunt.
The keyboard
- Down and Up move through the results, whatever group they are in.
- Enter opens the highlighted result. With nothing highlighted it opens the full results page.
- Escape closes the panel.
- Tab from the last result reaches View all results, so the whole panel is usable without a mouse.
Where a result takes you
- A settings section opens Settings, scrolled to that section, with its heading marked for a moment so you can see you arrived.
- A school-settings result opens that school's Settings window on the section named in the breadcrumb.
- A school opens its About page, a class opens the school's Classes tab, a lesson opens the classroom, a post opens the post itself, and a Help result opens the article.
- An admin result opens the admin page it belongs to.
The address bar always shows where you are, so the Back button returns you to the page you searched from — not to the results.
Accents and languages
Typing with or without accents gives the same results: turk and türk both find Türkmenabat, and Turkmenabat finds it too. Searching in Cyrillic works the same way, so промо finds the promo-code screens and статьи.
What you will not see
Results are decided for you before they are sent, not filtered in your browser. You will never be shown another school's content, another member's private details, or anything belonging to a school you have not joined. The Admin group does not exist for anyone who is not a platform admin.
Recent and suggested
An empty box offers the last eight places you opened from search, and five suggestions based on what your account can reach. Opening a result adds it to your recent list; the list is private to you.
